ICC suspends USA Cricket membership
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the immediate suspension of USA Cricket’s membership, citing multiple breaches of its obligations under the ICC Constitution. The decision follows a year of engagement with stakeholders and internal review.
At the heart of the ICC’s concerns were USA Cricket’s lack of a functional governance structure, insufficient progress toward recognition by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) as a national governing body, and several actions that the ICC deemed harmful to the reputation of cricket—both within the U.S. and globally.
Despite the suspension, the ICC has made clear that the move is intended to safeguard the sport’s integrity and the welfare of players. As such, the national teams of the United States will continue to be eligible for ICC tournaments, including their preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. To ensure minimal disruption to players, ICC management and its appointed representatives will temporarily oversee the administration and operations of USA’s national cricket teams.
A Normalisation Committee has been tasked with defining the reforms USA Cricket must undertake to regain full membership. These will include demonstrable changes in governance, accountability, and structural operations of the body. The ICC has emphasized that it remains committed to the long-term growth of cricket in the United States and intends to support the transition process while preserving the interests of athletes and the broader cricket ecosystem.
