Sachin Tendulkar played his final international game for India against the West Indies

The Mumbai Cricket Association has come up with the splendid idea of building a life-size statue of the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Before announcing it officially, Mumbai Cricket Association’s president, Amol Kale, had discussed this erudite idea with Master Blaster and gotten consent from him. The idea of erecting a statue came after Tendulkar had retired from international cricket for a decade.

As per reports by Indian Express - Officials are thinking to unveil the especial statue of Sachin Tendulkar whether on the occasion of the batman’s 50th birthday on 24 April or during the ODI World Cup later this year.

MCA has decided to construct the statue inside the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Wankhede Stadium has great importance in Sachin’s heart, as India won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup there against Sri Lanka. It was the last world cup for Sachin Tendulkar, and after finishing the match, Indian players gave tribute to the Master Blaster. Tendulkar has commenced his cricket career at Wankhede Stadium.

Also, at Wankhede Stadium, Sachin Tendulkar played his final international game for India against the West Indies and his 200th Test in November 2013. Today, Tendulkar and MCA officials are likely to visit Wankhede Stadium to decide where the statue should be installed.

In Wankhede Stadium, there is a stand named after the god of cricket. The Mumbai Cricket Association has also built another stand named after batting ace Dilip Vengsarkar and a corporate box named after former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar.

Tendulkar’s reaction on getting the honor by building a life-size statue at Wankhede Stadium:

The greatest batsman is delighted to know that he is getting a spiffing gift at his iconic home ground, Wankhede Stadium. Sachin told ANI - "Well it's a pleasant surprise. The president is here, Mr. Kale and the other committee members are going to join us in a while. We've come here to identify a spot. The idea was shared with me, and as I said it is a pleasant surprise. My career had started here and this is like the completion of a big circle,"

"It's been a journey with unbelievable memories and the best moment of my cricketing career came here when we won the World Cup in 2011. The reason that happened was a long time ago when [Ramakant] Achrekar sir (Sachin's coach) reprimanded me and from there on, I became a serious cricketer. The last international game I played as also at this very ground so it's very special and a great moment for me."

In 2009, Sachin Tendulkar became the first Indian sportsperson to be honored with a statue at Madame Tussauds London. The statue was unveiled on his 36th birthday.

As far as life-size statues are concerned, there are not many inside the cricket stadiums in India. Former Indian skipper Colonel CK Nayudu’s statue is installed at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur, the VDCA Stadium in Andhra Pradesh, and the Holkar Stadium in Indore, separately.
