England women defeated India women by 11 runs in the 14th match of the Group B in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 at the St George's Park in Gqeberha in South Africa. This was disappointing match for both Team India and their fans. Though it was looking like that India will bring victory as India confined England to 151/7 with the help of Renuka Thakur’s fifer but at the end England changed the whole game. Heartbreaking match for India started with the toss which was won by India women. They chose to bowl first. Instead of Shikha Pandey, Renuka Thakur opened for bowling for Team India. On the other side, Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley had taken charge for Team England. Match started with the good news for Indian fans as Renuka Thakur took her first wicket in the first over only by giving just 3 runs.

England was choked in the starting of the match due to Renuka’s stupendous bowling. She took 5 remarkable wickets to help her team in limiting the target. Though England had lost their early wickets still they cope with the pressure and made 151 for 7 in 20 overs. This happened due to the fearless half-century of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amy Jones’s contribution of 49 runs to the team.

Then time to chase came for Team India and Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana took strike for India. In early overs, Shafali Verma got knock out but Smriti didn’t give up and made a rocking half-century. Smriti Mandhana’s commendable 52 and Richa Ghosh’s unbeaten 47 gave Team India good amount of runs but not the victory. Chasing went wrong this time for India women, they were only able to make 140 runs for 5 in 20 overs and lost the match.

Things went wrong for Team India

In starting India vs England match was in the favor of India W but some mistakes by them pushed women in blue towards the failure.  Renuka was doing justice with the bowl from the starting overs by taking 3 wickets. Renuka Singh Thakur should get her spare over before the power play as England women were afraid of her exceptional bowling. But she bought back in last over though there she also snatched two wickets. But that was all gone in vain as decent number of runs were already been made by England W.

India women’s batting was average against England. The three batters – Shefali Verma (8), Jemimah Rodrigues (13) and Harmanpreet Kaur (4) runs were extremely low which results in India’s defeat.
